The
pike lure is divided into two main categories:
soft pike lures and
hard lures. For hard lures, these are mainly swimbaits.
Fishing for pike with a swimbait is a popular technique that relies on the use of lures that mimic small fish or other aquatic prey. Choosing the right lure depends on several factors, including the fishing environment, the season, and the behavior of the pike.
Hard lures have an obvious advantage, particularly for pike: they withstand several dozens of catches and remain just as effective, because the color can be scratched by the fish's teeth, but the swimming action will remain. One of the main drawbacks is the difficulty of fishing easily at depths greater than 5 m, because if you can weight a soft lure without any problem, on a swimbait it’s possible but limited. Obviously, there are also differences in swimming actions between hard and soft lures.
The main hard lures for pike will be: the
pike crank, the
pike jerk and the
pike swimbaits.
Hard pike lures will often be the same as a hard lure for black bass, while for hard perch lures and
hard sandre lures, they will often be different, usually smaller and selected from categories that fish deeper.
