A very popular lure for black bass is the jig, or rather the
rubber jig to not confuse it with other lures with similar names. If it seems at first to be too simple a lure, it isn’t and is very effective at catching several freshwater predators, including black bass in particular, but it is also effective as a
pike jig for the slightly heavier and reinforced versions.
A rubber jig is a simple hook with a lead as a jig head, but it is also equipped with a skirt of silicone wires which give volume during lure animation. You can just stick with this, and you'll catch fish. But like any jig head, you can also add a
trailer - a soft lure to thread onto the hook. This will add more volume, more vibrations, and slow down the descent. You will find these in the
soft black bass lure section. There are micro rubber jigs of less than 10g, up to a maximum of 28 grams, for deep fishing, or for getting under the weeds. And about this, some jigs are equipped with weedless systems (
weedless), which help to avoid snagging plants, leaves or obstacles during fishing. The most known technique is to fish with small pulls to tap the bottom (
bottom tapping), or to run it along, or you can let it descend along the obstacles and weeds that the bass love.
