The Cardiff is the very essence of what a mid-priced round profile reel should be. Solid, responsive and easy to use, it is built with a HAGANE lightweight aluminum body and a machined aluminum spool for increased strength. Perfect for large lures in fresh and salt water, this small sized casting reel offers precision, strength and value in a complete package. If you are looking for a reel to handle larger lures than your typical casting reel, the Cardiff could be your ideal choice. While it may not feature some of the technologies found on high-end Shimano models, you can rely on this dependable and very strong reel. It will cast medium and large size lures with the best of them and, just as importantly, bring them back with power while maintaining smoothness necessary for maximum effect. Or if you prefer, pair it with your light fishing rods for saltwater jigging and have fun with the monsters that live in the ocean. The Cardiff fully leverages its ultra-strong HAGANE body. Light and known for its robustness, it provides the perfect base for Shimano's manufacturing quality, which is further enhanced by the inclusion of a machined aluminum spool. Even the handle is machined from aluminum. When they designed Cardiff, weakness was certainly not going to be a factor. Casting is controlled by the Shimano VBS (Variable Brake System), which can be adjusted based on the size of your lure, conditions and your casting style. The 201A, the smallest, is the most versatile caster and handles light, medium and large lures; the 301A is a perfect compromise for large lures; while the 401A really stands out with the largest lures.
