You can use these weights wherever your rig is likely to move, such as in the river, on sloping bottoms, or when you fish at long distances. We have calculated that you will get the same grip with a 1 oz (28 gr) grippa as with a Swivel pear Lead (pear lead) of 2 oz (56 gr). You can therefore use a smaller weight, which is an advantage when you are fishing for barbel in the river. A lighter weight is also synonymous with less noise, so we like to use it to delicately fish the slopes where a round weight could roll to the bottom. The grippa has become very popular on the continent for fishing strong current rivers or for dropping at very long distances by boat on the large lakes.
