Le vivaneau australasien (récemment nommé Chrysophrys auratus) est un membre populaire de la famille des Sparidae largement répandu dans les eaux côtières et récifales de l'Australie, des Philippines, de l'Indonésie, de la Chine continentale, de Taiwan, du Japon et de la Nouvelle-Zélande. Il peut vivre jusqu'à 40 ans et se nourrit principalement de crustacés, d'invertébrés et de poissons. Ce n'est pas un vrai «vivaneau» (famille des lutjanidés). Un poisson très prisé par les pêcheurs, c'est aussi un régal très savoureux pour les chefs et «foodies».
