L'omble de fontaine est un membre aux salmonidés aux couleurs vives magnifiques. Indigène au nord-est de l'Amérique du Nord, il a été introduit en Europe et dans le monde à la fin du 19èmesiècle. Il préfère les eaux froides et les rivières et est un formidable prédateur, se nourrissant d’insectes, de sangsues et de petits poissons. L'espèce est caractérisée par un corps brun ou olive avecdes taches jaune vif ou rouge sur les côtés et des contours des nageoires blanches.
