The Blue-Spotted Stingray, or Kuhl's ray, is a member of the Dasyatidae family. It can be found in the coastal waters of the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific where the species prefers shallow, sandy waters where it can easily camouflage itself. Stingrays feed on small fish, crustaceans such as crabs and shrimps, molluscs and small fish. The species has a very distinctive olive green-blue spotted body and two venomous stingers on the forward part of the tail. Although the venom of the Blue Spotted ray is not fatal to humans, it is certainly very painful. It is a popular species by aquarium enthusiasts due to its beautiful colouring, but it is not easy to keep in captivity.
