The herbivorous carp or Amur (Ctenopharyngodon idella) is an important member of the carp family. It originates from Chinese waters and the Amur basin. With a maximum length of 1.5 m, the species prefers slow currents or lakes. It feeds mainly on aquatic vegetation. The species was introduced into Europe in the middle of the 20th century and has adapted very well. It's a very large, strong and streamlined fish, which makes it popular with fish farmers and aquaculturists.
