What is an electronic training collar: The electronic training collar is an aid to your dog's education. It is indeed a tool intended to help and support you in training your dog. The functioning principle of an electronic training collar is simple. Most electronic collars work on the same principle:
1- the dog is warned by a beep or beeps for its bad behaviour 2- if the dog persists in its unwanted and/or annoying behaviour, it then receives a correction.
The correction, depending on the models of electronic collars, can occur in different ways: - by a spray jet (for example, citronella) - by vibrations - by ultrasonic - by electrostatic stimulations*
* The collars emitting corrections by electrostatic stimulations do not emit real "electric shocks" as such, but electrostatic stimulations. These are safe for the dog and also painless for him, the sensations felt by the animal are indeed annoying rather than painful, which will encourage him to stop his bad behaviours.
Usage tips: A dog can learn basic commands as soon as it reaches the age of 8 weeks. Before considering the use of an electronic training collar, we strongly advise you to train your companion in a so-called "natural" way (praise, petting, rewards, positive reinforcement...). With a little work and time spent with your dog, you should be able to teach him basic commands without which life with your partner will be difficult (sit, lie down, leash walk, recall...).
Your dog's training should start as early as possible, and you need to regularly "maintain" his training to reinforce the acquired commands. An electronic training collar is merely a tool to reinforce commands and correct defects and unwanted behaviours.
An electronic collar should not be used on a dog aged less than 6 months. Excessive use of electronic training collars can result in the opposite effect of the desired one, and lead to behavioural problems. We strongly advise you to read well the instructions indicated on the collar notices. An electronic collar is indeed a very effective tool, but it is crucial to use it correctly.
Use of the training collar in hunting: The training collar is widely used for hunting dogs. The dog is often far from his master, and all his attention is focused on the game. It is, therefore, common for the animal not to respond to commands. The training collar, if the commands are understood by the dog, is often the solution.
It is frequently used in the following cases: • Dog recall • Prevent the dog from hunting too far • Refusal of certain game (avoid deer for example) • Safety: making a quick and effective reprimand in case of danger to the animal (roads…)
