The sea trout (Salmo trutta m. trutta) is an anadromous trout from the Salmonidae family that is closely related to the Atlantic salmon. The species is endemic to the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, spending the majority of its life in the sea. Adults return to fresh water only to breed. Fry develop in rivers and head towards the sea as they mature. The sea trout is a predatory fish that feeds on invertebrates and fish. The species is highly prized by fishermen, but it is threatened by the destruction of its habitat and changes in river systems created by the erection of dams.
