The coral trout (Plectropomus Leopardus), or leopard coral grouper, is a beautifully coloured member of the Serranidae family. It's found near coastal reefs from 3 to 100 metres depth in the western Pacific waters from Japan to Australia as well as in Malaysia and on the east coast of Thailand. It's a large and formidable predator, reaching approximately 120 cm and feeding on fish and crustaceans. The species is greatly appreciated by sport fishermen and the commercial fishing industry.
