This is a group of decapod crustaceans. There are almost 7 thousand species of crabs in the world. They are found in all oceans, fresh water and even in terrestrial habitats. Many crabs, like some in our collections, are skilled swimmers and can swim in all directions. Crabs feed on small marine organisms and organic matter they find on the sea floor. Crabs are important to the economy of many countries and are highly valued by chefs all over the world.
