A prominent and majestic member of the pelagic environment, the blue marlin is one of the largest bony fish and perhaps the most recognisable of the istiophorids. Females reach over 2000 pounds while males are much smaller. Endemic to the Atlantic Ocean, the blue marlin is also present in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. They use their bill to stun their prey, primarily feeding on fish such as tuna, bonito, flying fish, ballyhoo and squid. It's a powerful fish highly sought after by sport fishermen.
