The Barramundi is a member of the Latidae family. These are catadromous fish that are born in saltwater but live most of their life in freshwater or brackish water. They can be primarily found in Australia, Southeast Asia and places in the Pacific Ocean. Although Barramundis do sometimes live in saltwater, the species prefers rivers, lagoons, and estuaries and fresh water. Almost all Barramundi are born male, and some transform into females between the ages of 3 and 4. They feed mainly on fishes, insects, and small aquatic animals. It's a prized catch for anglers and a popular species in today's fish farming industry.
