The Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber scombrus) is a pelagic fish endemic to most of the coastal waters of North America, the West coasts of Europe, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and the Baltic. Adults can reach 50cm in length and can weigh up to 1kg. They are nomadic fish that live in schools of fish. They feed on crustaceans, plankton and small fish. Aside from being a popular species among fishermen, the Mackerel is an important fish in the economy of several countries. It's also a prized species for its taste and high concentration of omega-3 acids and vitamin B12.
